The men of the Mechanicsburg Nine played two spirited matches on Sunday, Aug 7th in Glen Burnie, MD, coming away victorious in both affairs.
The first game was played against the Arundel Excelsiors. Mechanicsburg jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after the first inning. Arundel tried to mount a comeback but with some timely hitting and solid defense the Nine of Mechanicsburg held on to win 9-6.
In the second match the opponent was the Chesapeake Nine of Baltimore. This match was extremely close but once again the Mechanicsburg Nine played nearly flawless defense narrowly missing a shutout. The final tally was 4-1.
On the season the Mechanicsburg Nine are now 8-6. The next scheduled event is the Mid-Atlantic Vintage Base Ball League Festival. This event will showcase all the teams that make up the MAVBBL in one location. This year's festival will take place on Aug 20-21 at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard.
